A Heartfelt Afternoon of Remembrance and Celebration

We recently marked the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a touching afternoon tea celebration on our beautiful patio. With a perfect view of our peaceful, well-maintained gardens, residents, relatives, and staff came together to reflect, remember, and enjoy each other’s company. The catering team went above and beyond, serving up a delightful array of sandwiches and cakes, which brought smiles all round. The afternoon was further enriched by the lovely Julia, whose live singing stirred up fond memories and added an air of nostalgia to the entire event.

This special occasion wasn’t just about food and entertainment - it was about reconnecting with the past, sharing stories, and celebrating peace. Many of our residents have personal memories of the original VE Day in 1945, and this gathering offered a chance for them to talk about their experiences, pass on stories to others, and reflect with both family members and our dedicated care team. These moments of shared reminiscence created a warm, communal spirit that truly made the day memorable.
Adding even more meaning to the celebration, the event also helped raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. This gesture of giving back captured the essence of community spirit that lives within Sandmere Care Home - spreading hope and positivity not only within our home but also beyond.

We’re also delighted to share that a brand-new service has been added to our in-house salon. Starting Thursday 22nd May, Vicki Thompson will be visiting every four weeks to offer nail services to residents and their loved ones. Options include a gel manicure, nail varnish manicure, or a simple tidy-up - a fantastic addition that promotes self-care and wellbeing in a pampering environment.
If you’d like to know more about life at Sandmere Care Home, or would like to see our wonderful garden and facilities for yourself, don’t hesitate to get in touch with our friendly team - we’d love to show you around.
