Celebrating the Opening of Our New Dementia Suite!

We recently welcomed the local community to celebrate the official opening of our brand-new dementia suite at Sandmere. The event took place on a sunny day in the garden, where residents, staff, and visitors gathered to enjoy some fresh air, play board games, and explore the thoughtfully designed new space.

The atmosphere was lively and heartwarming. Residents were seen chatting, laughing, and connecting with familiar faces and new ones alike. The team at Sandmere were proud to see how naturally the new space brought people together, creating opportunities for shared moments, friendship, and plenty of smiles.

The new dementia suite has been carefully created to offer a calm, comfortable, and engaging environment for residents living with dementia. It includes features such as clear signage, familiar décor, soft lighting, and consistent layouts to help reduce anxiety and confusion. Outdoor access and sensory elements have also been included to support wellbeing and daily stimulation.

Creating this dedicated space was an important step for the home. It gives residents the chance to feel safe and at ease, while also helping them maintain a sense of independence and identity. By offering a secure environment that truly feels like home, the team can continue to deliver compassionate, personalised dementia care that meets each individual’s needs.

The day was also a brilliant opportunity to strengthen Sandmere’s relationship with the local community. By inviting people in, the team hoped to raise awareness about dementia and the importance of inclusive spaces. This outreach is something Sandmere is keen to keep building on, with future events, partnerships, and information-sharing sessions to support families and carers alike.

A huge thank you goes out to everyone who attended, helped organise the day, and contributed to making the event such a success. The new suite is already making a real difference and has brought a renewed sense of warmth and connection to the home.
